What we fit and finish

Cabinets and countertops are where plumbing, electrics and finishes meet, so they are planned together.

Decisions before the first cabinet goes in

Reface the old cabinets or fit new ones?
Refacing keeps cabinet boxes that are sound and replaces doors, drawer fronts and finishes. New cabinets suit a new layout or boxes damaged by water.
Which layout works for the room?
Think in work zones: cooking, washing and preparing, with short walks between them. We adjust the layout to your room and your habits.
What door style and finish?
Flat-front doors look clean and wipe easily, and framed doors suit traditional rooms. Matte, wood-effect and painted finishes each wear differently in warm, steamy kitchens.
Which handles and inside fittings?
Choose handles or push-to-open, and decide on deep drawers, pull-out bins and corner fittings now, because they change cabinet sizes.
Where do the sink, cooktop and sockets go?
Cabinets, plumbing and electrics are planned together, so the outlets, the sink and the cooktop land where the cabinets leave room for them.

Countertop materials compared

General trade-offs for the surfaces most often chosen. Ask to see the actual slab or sample in your own light.

Heat

Granite
Handles heat well. Still use a trivet.
Marble
Tolerates warmth. Use a trivet.
Engineered quartz
The resin binder can scorch under hot pans.
Porcelain slab
Very heat tolerant.
Laminate
Can scorch or blister.

Stains and spills

Granite
Resists most stains. Sealing helps.
Marble
Porous. Acids such as lemon juice etch the surface.
Engineered quartz
Non-porous, so no sealing.
Porcelain slab
Non-porous and resists stains.
Laminate
Resists stains if the seams stay sealed.

Scratches and chips

Granite
Hard. Edges can chip.
Marble
Softer. Scratches show.
Engineered quartz
Hard. Edges can chip under impact.
Porcelain slab
Very hard. Sharp knocks on edges can chip it.
Laminate
Scratches and chips are hard to repair.

Look

Granite
Natural speckle and movement.
Marble
Natural veining, different on every slab.
Engineered quartz
Even, consistent pattern in many colors.
Porcelain slab
Thin slab in stone, concrete or plain looks.
Laminate
Wide range of colors and patterns.

Upkeep

Granite
Reseal from time to time.
Marble
Reseal and clean gently.
Engineered quartz
Wipe clean.
Porcelain slab
Wipe clean.
Laminate
Wipe clean and keep seams dry.

Natural stone varies from slab to slab, so look at the real slab, not only a small sample chip.

How a cabinet and countertop job runs

From initial inspection to final walkthrough, the same five stages as every job, applied to cabinets and countertops.

How every renovation runs
  1. 01

    Inspect and measure

We measure walls, corners, windows and the positions of pipes and sockets, and check walls and floors for level.

  2. 02

    Confirm the plan

Layout, door style, handles, countertop material and appliance sizes are settled with you before anything is cut or built.

  3. 03

    Prepare the room

Old units come out, walls are repaired and painted or tiled where needed, and the plumbing and electrical points are set.

  4. 04

    Fit the cabinets

Base units are leveled first, wall units are hung from marked lines, and doors and drawers are aligned.

  5. 05

    Template and fit the countertop

The countertop is templated on the fitted cabinets, cut for the sink and cooktop, and set in place with sealed joints.

  6. 06

    Connect and test

The sink, faucet, cooktop and sockets are connected and tested.

  7. 07

    Quality check

We check every door and drawer for alignment, and the countertop for joints, edges and level.

  8. 08

    Final walkthrough

We walk through the finished room with you, clean up and hand over.

Signs cabinets or countertops need attention

Look behind the doors as well as at them. If pipes leak or the boxes have swollen from water, new doors will not fix it. These signs help you choose between repair, refacing and replacement.

  • Cabinet bases that swell or flake near the sink
  • Doors that sag or will not close flat
  • Drawers that stick or drop off their runners
  • Seams opening in the countertop
  • Chips or cracks near the sink or cooktop
  • A damp or musty smell in the cabinet under the sink

Cabinet and countertop questions

Can you reface my cabinets instead of replacing them?

Yes. Cabinet installation and refacing are both part of our kitchen work. We check the boxes first: sound boxes can be refaced, and damaged or swollen ones are better replaced.

Can I change the countertop and keep the cabinets?

Often, if the cabinets are level and strong enough to carry the new top. Stone is heavy, so we check the boxes before we recommend it.

Which countertop material is easiest to live with?

It depends on how you cook and clean. Non-porous materials such as engineered quartz and porcelain slab need the least upkeep, while natural stone gives a one-of-a-kind look but wants sealing and care.

Do you fit bathroom vanity cabinets?

Yes. Vanity cabinets are part of the job, with moisture-resistant materials and sealed edges around the basin.

How much do cabinets and countertops cost?

It depends on the layout, the cabinet style, the countertop material and whether plumbing, electrics or tiling are included. The free estimate itemizes every step before work starts.
