Choosing the right AC for your home
Unit type, size and position decide how well a home cools. Settle these first.

- Split, central or a mix?
- A split system pairs an indoor unit on a wall or ceiling with an outdoor unit and cools one room or zone. A central (ducted) system cools many rooms through ducts and vents from one indoor unit hidden in the ceiling. Some homes use both.
- How big should the system be?
- Size follows floor area, how much sun the windows get, ceiling height and how the room is used. A unit that is too small runs flat out and one that is too large cycles on and off, so size is worked out room by room.
- Where do the indoor and outdoor units go?
- Indoor units need clear airflow and a route for the drain. Outdoor units need space around them and a short, tidy pipe run. Fix positions before walls are painted or tiled so pipes and wiring can be hidden.
- What about the power supply and the drain?
- Every unit needs a suitable power supply and a drain for the water it removes from the air. Plan both with the electrician and the plumber so nothing has to be cut into finished walls.
- What efficiency rating should you look for?
- Compare energy efficiency ratings such as SEER when choosing a unit. A higher rating means less electricity for the same cooling, other things being equal.
What the AC work covers
Installation, repair and the cleaning that keeps a system efficient.

Installation
New split and central units fitted, with the pipes, wiring and drain routed and the system tested before handover.
Repair and troubleshooting
Faults diagnosed and fixed, from weak cooling and leaks to electrical and thermostat problems.
Service and maintenance
A thorough cleaning, coolant level checks and a complete inspection for faults or issues.
Duct cleaning
Dust, allergens and other contaminants removed from the duct system, which improves air quality and AC efficiency.
Coil cleaning
Evaporator and condenser coils cleaned so the unit transfers heat properly and lasts longer.
Sanitization
Ducts and AC components cleaned and disinfected to reduce bacteria, mold and odors.
Signs your AC needs attention
Most AC faults start small. Look for these.
- Rooms that take longer to cool, or never get cold.
- Water dripping from the indoor unit or pooling near the outdoor one.
- Musty or stale smells when the AC starts.
- Rattling, grinding or squealing from either unit.
- A unit that runs constantly, or switches on and off in short cycles.
- Electricity use creeping up with no change in how you use the AC.
- Dust around the vents, or more sneezing indoors, especially after renovation work.

Which AC service does what
The recommended gap between each service, so you can plan the year.
AC service
- What it does
- A thorough cleaning, coolant level checks and a complete inspection for faults
- How often
- At least once a year, or twice a year if the AC runs constantly
Coil cleaning
- What it does
- Cleans the coils so heat transfers properly, which keeps the unit efficient and helps it last
- How often
- At least once a year, and more often in a dusty place or if the unit runs all year
Duct cleaning
- What it does
- Removes dust, allergens and other contaminants from the ducts and checks them for leaks and damage
- How often
- Every three to five years, or straight after renovation work or water damage
Sanitization
- What it does
- Cleans and disinfects ducts and AC components to reduce bacteria, mold and odors
- How often
- Advised after an inspection of the system
A cleaning after renovation work matters most: dust from sanding, cutting and demolition settles in ducts and coils.
How an AC job runs
From first look to handover, adapted from the six steps used across the building systems.
- 01
Initial consultation and assessment
A technician looks at the rooms, the existing units and ducts, and what is not working or not cold enough.
- 02
Planning and design of the cooling system
Unit types, sizes and positions are agreed, with routes for pipes, wiring and the drain.
- 03
Installation or repair of AC components
Units and ductwork are fitted, repaired or replaced, or the system is cleaned.
- 04
Thorough testing and inspection
The system is run and checked for cooling, airflow and leaks.
- 05
Final adjustments and cleanup
Settings are adjusted and the work area is cleaned up.
- 06
Customer walkthrough and satisfaction check
You see the finished work, ask your questions and get advice on keeping the system maintained.

AC questions, answered
What is included in your AC service?
Our AC service includes a thorough cleaning, coolant level checks, and a complete inspection for any faults or issues.
How often should I service my AC?
We recommend servicing your AC at least once a year, but if your AC is constantly running, consider servicing it twice a year.
Why clean the AC ducts, and how often?
AC duct cleaning removes dust, allergens, and other contaminants from your system, improving air quality and AC efficiency. We recommend cleaning your AC ducts every three to five years or immediately after renovations or a significant event like water damage.
Why is AC coil cleaning necessary?
AC coil cleaning helps maintain the system's efficiency. Dirty coils can lead to reduced heat transfer, increased energy consumption, and a reduced lifespan for your AC unit.
Can I install an AC unit myself?
While some people may attempt to install an AC unit themselves, we strongly recommend hiring a professional to ensure the unit is installed correctly and safely.
Is there a maintenance plan that includes AC service?
Yes. The annual maintenance contracts include routine AC service and maintenance alongside electrical and plumbing service. The maintenance page lists the packages.
